Teacher orders calculators from Morrisons – is sent seven pasta bakes instead

When it comes to online shopping from a supermarket, it’s always a little bit of a risk as you can never be 100% sure they’ll have your item in stock.

Often if they don’t have the exact product you wanted, they’ll offer a similar substitute that they hope will do the job.

But one woman got a shock recently when her substituted item turned out to be nothing at all like what she’d ordered.

Alison Jagger, a maths teacher from Wakefield, bought seven calculators from Morrisons as part of an online shop.

The 28-year-old had hoped to give some of these to her secondary school students to use in lessons.

However, when her groceries were delivered, she soon discovered that the supermarket had sent her seven chicken and pasta bakes instead.

She shared the amusing blunder on Twitter, writing: “When you order seven calculators from @morrisons and they send you seven chicken and bacon pasta bakes instead as a substitution?”

Her tweet quickly went viral, garnering over 4,000 likes and hundreds of retweets.

The official Morrisons Twitter account responded to the post, writing: “Ermmm, wow. I’m not sure how this happened Mrs Jagger. Can you DM us with your order number, email address, postcode and contact number along with a copy of your tweet so we can try figure what went on here.”

Alison confirmed that she has since been given a full refund for the calculators and Morrisons have also let her keep the pasta bakes.

She said: “I’m a secondary school maths teacher in Wakefield.

“Our school gave all our calculators to Year 10 and Year 11 students to keep hold of and use so they wouldn’t need to share resources across bubbles as part of our covid risk assessment.

“But this then means students in years 7-9 have little access to calculators for their lessons. So I was looking for calculators to buy myself for my students to use in maths lessons and saw Morrisons via Amazon Prime had calculators on offer at £2.50.

“I thought I’ll get as many as I can as that’s a really good offer, so I ordered seven.

“Then when it arrived they’d substituted the seven calculators for seven pasta bakes!”

She continued to say: “My husband Jonathan ran outside and managed to catch the driver and said we didn’t order this, we ordered calculators and he just laughed and said it’s a substitution and we’d have to contact customer support.

“I requested a refund through Amazon and they have refunded the full amount and let us keep the pasta bakes.

“I’m just glad we didn’t order more as I would have had dozens if they’d have let me!”

The teacher added: “Now I need to find some scientific calculators that are as good value as those were.

“I don’t think the pasta will be much good for calculating angles in pie charts with Year 9 on Wednesday!”
